Registering a Domain and Checking Availability
Where to start
You can start searching for a new domain in two ways: from the search box on the site's home page or on the /domains page, or, if you are already a registered user, directly from the dashboard — Dashboard → Domains → Register. The availability check works the same way in both cases; the only difference is that a domain registered from the dashboard is booked straight to your account.
How to check a domain's availability
- Type the domain name you want in the search box — either the full name with an extension (for example
example.ge) or just the name without one (for exampleexample); in that case the system checks the.geand then the.comversion automatically. - Click "Check".
- A few seconds later the result appears: if the domain is free you will see a confirmation and the yearly registration price; if it is taken, the system automatically suggests similar, available alternatives with different extensions (for example
.io,.co,.online).
The dashboard also offers a bulk check of several domains at once (Dashboard → Domains → Bulk Checker) — handy when you want to compare several name options.
Registering the domain
If the domain is free and you want to buy it, click "Register" — you will go to the order page, where you need to specify the following:
- Registration period — 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. The longer the period, the longer your domain is protected from accidental expiry.
- Currency — GEL, USD or EUR.
- Auto-Renew — if turned on, the domain renews automatically before it expires, so you never lose it by accident.
- WHOIS privacy — you can turn on hiding of your contact details from the public WHOIS database right away. This is free for every domain registered through RE:HOST — read more in the separate article about WHOIS privacy.
- Nameservers — choose Cloudflare (recommended — fast DNS and extra protection), the RE:HOST hosting nameservers (if you are connecting the domain to a hosting service on the same account) or your own nameservers from another provider.
- Registrant contact — name, organization (optional), email, phone and address. The fields are pre-filled from your account details, and you can change them if needed.
After filling in the fields, click "Place order" — an invoice for the corresponding amount is created.
Payment and activation
The domain is actually registered only after the invoice is paid. Pay by card, bank transfer or another available method, or with your account balance — as soon as the payment is confirmed, registration starts automatically and usually finishes within a few minutes. Once it is done you will find the domain under Dashboard → Domains, where you can manage its nameservers, DNS records and other settings.
If the domain is already registered elsewhere
If you already own the domain with another registrar and want to move it to RE:HOST, that is a transfer, not a new registration — use the separate form under Dashboard → Domains → Transfer. Along with the domain name you will need the authorization code (EPP/Auth Code) from your current registrar.
Tips
- Choose a short, memorable name — if your preferred option is taken, try a different extension before changing the name itself.
- Turn on auto-renew so the domain does not expire by accident and a third party cannot register it the moment it lapses.
- Turn on WHOIS privacy as soon as you register — it is free and protects your personal details from unwanted spam and calls.
